MY STORY

Hi, I’m Sawyer Hick (MA, GC-ACSA, BCYC)

For over ten years, I’ve worked in the mental health field supporting children, youth, adults, and families through life’s challenges. My path has included a Bachelor’s Degree in Child and Youth Care, a Graduate Certificate in Advanced Clinical Study of Addiction, and a Master’s Degree in Counselling Psychology. Along the way, I’ve developed a deep respect for the strength it takes to seek support and the resilience people carry, even in difficult seasons.

As a family therapist, I help individuals, couples, and families navigate transitions, heal relational wounds, and build healthier patterns. My additional training in addiction recovery and perinatal mental health allows me to support families facing unique challenges , whether that’s coping with substance use, adjusting to parenthood, or breaking cycles that no longer serve you. My approach is compassionate, collaborative, and rooted in evidence-based practice. I believe therapy is not about “fixing” people, but about creating space for healing, growth, and connection. Together, we can work toward the change and balance you’re hoping for.

I am registered with ACTA (The Association of Counselling Therapy of Alberta) as a Counselling Therapist, Addiction Counsellor, and Child and Youth Care Counsellor, and am in the process of registering with the CCPA as a Canadian Certified Counsellor.

My Approach

I draw from a variety of evidence-based approaches including Solution Focused Therapy, Emotion Focused Therapy, CBT, Attachment Theory and Internal Family Systems (IFS), and I integrate these methods depending on the unique needs of each client or family. As a family therapist, I believe that issues are rarely isolated, they are often rooted within the dynamics of the broader system. By working with the system as a whole, we can foster deeper, more lasting change.I use a strength-based, client-centered approach, always meeting people where they are. I believe that every client is the expert in their own life; my role is to help you reconnect with your inner wisdom and rediscover your light. For clients who are open to it, I also incorporate elements of spirituality to support healing and personal growth.Whether you’re seeking support for yourself, your child, your relationship, or your whole family, I’m here to walk alongside you with compassion, clarity, and care.
